Specter Spec’s oddball punk and roll duo. They circumvented their lack of a drummer by recording loops with various Chicago percussionists and played their big riffs over those, which fits with some of the other low-tech homemade gizmos they occasionally employed. Imagine if the Dwarves were a one-man band but less vulgar, and more inspired by the best early 70s hard rock and you’re getting close. Their “Specula vs. the Drug Czar” 7” on RRR was one of the absolute best singles of the period and you should absolutely go track one down.
